Rules of Baccarat
Baccarat is a card game where players predict whether the Banker's hand or the Player's hand will have a higher total value. Each hand receives two cards initially, with values calculated by adding card values modulo 10. Cards 2-9 retain face value, 10s and face cards equal zero, and Aces equal one.
The game follows strict drawing rules that determine whether a third card is dealt. If either hand totals 8 or 9 on the first two cards (a "natural"), no further cards are drawn and the hand with the higher value wins. For hands totaling 0-5, the Player must hit. The Banker's decision to hit depends on the Player's third card, creating a layer of strategic complexity based on probabilities.
Understanding these mandatory rules is essential for developing effective betting strategies. Unlike poker, players have no decisions about when to hit or stand—the rules dictate all actions. This makes baccarat a game of prediction rather than active decision-making.
